GAEIA is thrilled to have hosted our second annual Global Conversation, which took place in a hybrid setting at the Strathmore University Business School in Nairobi, Kenya. In our 2023 Global Conversation, we brought scholars, industry professionals, and experts together to discuss the ethics and social impacts of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in finance, education, and governance.
September 14, 2023

The Global Conversation is situated within the GAEIA project launched from the Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Stanford University in March 2021. During the past two years, in collaboration with industry leaders, over 100 Ph.D. and advanced level scholars from over 25 countries have worked in cross-disciplinary teams to study ethical risks & dilemmas associated with technology use. During our Global Conversation, The GAEIA team and guests will address the following challenges.
- How does technology impact access to finance and education? What are the risks and opportunities?
- How can academia, industry, and governing bodies work together to identify and respond to risks in a timely and effective manner and so we may minimize the development of ideological and strategic silos in our responses?
- How can we develop and support an approach of responsible use of technology and innovation; and how can we on that basis strengthen the local innovation ecosystem in Nairobi?
This global conversation provides an inclusive hybrid meeting space to share work and insights related to ethical risks and social impacts of advanced technologies. We will…
- – Share findings from our global, cross-disciplinary project.
- – Learn critical industry and government perspectives, including the role of Human Rights in these considerations.
- – Explore the meaning of responsible digital leadership with thought leaders across sectors.
