Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Stanford University

May 19, 2022

6.00AM PT / 3.00PM CET / 5.00PM EAT
7:30PM IST / 10.00PM HKT

This inaugural conference provides a virtual meeting space to gather and share work and insights related to ethical risks and social impacts of advanced technologies, with focus on the financial sector.

We will share findings from our project in a conversation inviting in keynote sessions and speakers that provide critical industry and government perspectives, including the role of Human Rights in these considerations.

We will explore the meaning of sustainable finance; responsible digital leadership and introduce the deepening and broadening of our research agenda with the launch of our second global cohort of scholars.

New technologies and advanced uses of data have the potential to solve the global challenges ahead of us. However, they also present important ethical dilemmas and challenges. Nowhere is this truer than in the financial sector.

Please join our global conversation with international experts from academia, business, and intergovernmental organizations as we discuss the ethics and social impacts of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies in the context of the financial sector. We will discuss issues such as…

What are the impacts, risks, and opportunities of technology use in the financial sector. How do we avoid the reproduction and exacerbation of inequalities? What types of business, regulatory, and policy solutions can better manage risk?

The conversation is situated within the global Responsible Digital Leadership project launched from the Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Stanford University in March 2021. During the past year over 50 Ph.D. and advanced level scholars from over 25 countries collaborated with financial industry leaders to perform a transdisciplinary study of ethical risks & dilemmas associated with technology use in the financial sector.
